*Neuschwanstein Castle, which appears through mountain-top mist, looks like a mirage. It was created by Ludwig II and never completed. It's perhaps the world's most well-known castle and the architectural style inspired Walt Disney's Cinderella Castle. There's a great view of the castle from the Marienbrucke over a waterfall and gorge just above the castle. For even better views, venture to Tegelberg on the Tegelberg cable car and walk down to the castle.
