Enzyme Engineering XXI
An ECI Conference Series

September 18-22, 2011
Vail, Colorado. USA

About This Conference

Conference Overview
The Enzyme Engineering Conferences were initiated in 1971 and have become a leading international forum for the discussion of new developments in enzyme technology and biocatalysis, putting an emphasis on emerging technologies and focusing on both the fundamental and practical aspects.

Opening Keynote
Willem (Pim) Stemmer, chief executive of Amunix, will give the opening keynote address. He, along with past Enzyme Engineering conference chair Frances Arnold, received the 2011 Charles Stark Draper Prize, the nation's top engineering honor, for their joint development of directed protein evolution that has helped those working in engineering, chemistry, and biochemistry find more practical and cost effective ways to development improvements in areas including food ingredients, drugs, agricultural products, gene delivery systems, laundry aids, and biofuels,

Conference Themes

  • Engineered enzymes and pathways for biofuels production
  • Novel applications in medicine and biotechnology
  • Application of synthetic biology to directed evolution and mutant library creation
  • Protein design and applied aspects

Enzyme Engineering Award
The Enzyme Engineering Award will be presented in the names of Engineering Conferences International and the financial sponsor, Genencor. The winner will present a lecture at the conference.

The award is based on any or all of the following:

  • New discoveries, research, process or device development or methodology relating to scientific or engineering achievements in the area of enzyme engineering.
  • Outstanding contributions of a scientific or engineering nature in the design, operation or management of facilities, processes or devices based primarily on enzyme engineering.
  • Distinguished service towards the development and growth of enzyme engineering
